What To Wear

With spring and summer, arrive numerous invitations to outdoor activities. For me, and I'm sure for many other people this sometimes poses a challenge of what to wear without looking ridiculous. I still want to look cute, but I don't want to look silly at a barbeque as my stilettos are sinking into the grass. To solve my dilemma and everyone else's I have put together simple guidelines for spring/summer dressing.

Baseball Game

Backyard Party

Weekend Lunch Date

Baseball game:

The biggest mistake women make over and over is dressing too sexy to the ballpark. I realize that ballgames are a good place to meet people (read: boys), however dressing inappropriately actually backfires. The girls end up looking silly and tart-y instead of cute and sexy.

This is an outdoors event, so first and foremost, enjoy the outdoors! If you are young, you can still wear short shorts, but no daisy dukes please. For ladies in their later 20s and 30s, capris and the newly popular Bermuda shorts are an excellent option. Skirts or dresses are not a good idea because they look out of place. Unfortunately, I have seen many minis and dresses at the Cubs games! Pair the capris or shorts with a simple tank or t-shirt. Carry a sweater if it's a night game and the weather is a bit chilly. On a sunny day, don't forget a head cover. It will not only protect you from sun stroke, but it will save your chemically treated hair from frying. As for shoes, anything goes but within reason. No high heels, and nothing that might present walking problems down steep steps. Short heels, espadrilles or wedges are the best idea.

Backyard party:

You will probably attend a 100 of these during the summer, but this outfit can be modified easily and you will always look good. My personal rule of thumb is, if someone makes the effort to host a party and to extend an invitation to you, make the effort and dress up. I'm not talking about a ball gown, but a dressy casual outfit will make anyone look presentable. If you are attending a day party, you can go more casual. If this is an evening party, dress up a little while still looking casual. A beautiful a-line skirt with a pretty top will do the trick. Don't wear heels of any kind. You don't want to be sinking into your host's lawn! Instead, choose wedges, esdpadrilles or flip flops.

Weekend Lunch Date:

stylish clutch with custom piping

Spring and summer are wonderful times to go on a weekend lunch date with your beau or best girlfriend. Depending on how dressy the restaurant you will be attending is, you will need to adjust your outfit accordingly. If you're going to a casual place, capris or a casual skirt and a short sleeve top will look good. If the restaurant is dressier or you're channeling your inner Kennedy, opt for a dress with great accessories or a pretty embellished skirt with a short sleeve top. If you're going out to lunch, please try to abstain from wearing shorts and tank tops. As for shoes, anything goes so enjoy those stilettos girls!
